About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, MAP provides safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to thrive. Volunteers are the heart of our mission, and we are building strong systems to ensure they feel supported and equipped to make a lasting impact.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer HR Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of MAP’s People Division. This role will focus on volunteer life cycle activities and coordination of HR processes to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for all volunteers. It is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit HR, people operations, or organizational development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the volunteer life cycle activities which may include new volunteer onboarding, communication, documentation, rewards and recognition, training, engagement and feedback collection
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and HR databases
- Support compliance with HR policies and procedures
- Coordinate communication between HR leadership and volunteers
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Gmail)
- Interest in HR, nonprofit management, or people operations
- Prior HR or administrative experience (preferred but not required)
Commitment
- Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Fully remote with virtual meetings
