Volunteer Deputy Executive Director
Detalhes
Descrição
The Healing Initiatives, Incorporated (THI) is seeking an experienced, dependable professional to serve as its Volunteer Deputy Executive Director. This individual will work directly under the Executive Director and serve as THI’s second-in-command for delegated organizational and operational matters.
ABOUT THI
THI is a Maryland-based 501(c)(3) arts and mindfulness wellness organization working to make total health accessible through a creative lens. THI serves children, youth, adults, caregivers, and families through developing programs in expressive arts, mindfulness, wellness education, family-centered support, educational advocacy, community connection, and resource navigation.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Volunteer Deputy Executive Director will help move THI from planning into sustainable operations. This person must be prepared to assume meaningful responsibility, make sound day-to-day decisions within delegated authority, supervise assigned projects, and keep important work moving when the Executive Director is unavailable.
This is a hands-on leadership position—not an advisory or board position. The Deputy Executive Director reports directly to the Executive Director and must respect the authority of THI’s governing Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Executive Director in implementing THI’s priorities, programs, partnerships, and organizational goals.
- Make day-to-day operational decisions within authority delegated by the Executive Director.
- Manage assigned projects, deadlines, follow-up activities, and organizational work plans.
- Help coordinate volunteers, interns, contractors, community partners, and program collaborators.
- Monitor progress and ensure that assigned responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
- Assist with partnership development, community outreach, fundraising activities, donor follow-up, and grant readiness.
- Help establish administrative procedures, internal systems, team expectations, and accountability practices.
- Review correspondence, reports, proposals, presentations, and organizational materials when assigned.
- Represent THI at approved meetings, community events, and partnership discussions.
- Provide the Executive Director with accurate updates, recommendations, and early notice of concerns.
- Protect confidential organizational, financial, personnel, donor, partner, and participant information.
- Ensure that delegated work remains aligned with THI’s mission, governing documents, policies, and charitable purpose.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three years of experience in leadership, nonprofit operations, program management, education, community development, business administration, or a related area.
- Strong decision-making, organization, communication, project-management, and follow-through skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities without constant supervision.
- Experience coordinating people, projects, partnerships, programs, or organizational systems.
- Ability to identify problems, recommend practical solutions, and act within clearly established authority.
- Professional judgment, emotional maturity, integrity, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
- Comfort working with a developing, founder-led nonprofit that is actively strengthening its board, systems, funding, partnerships, and programming.
- Alignment with THI’s commitment to creativity, accessibility, dignity, inclusion, family support, community trust, and trauma-informed engagement.
- Familiarity with shared digital files, virtual meetings, email communication, calendars, and basic project-management tools.
Experience with nonprofit administration, fundraising, grants, community partnerships, compliance, budgeting, or volunteer supervision is strongly preferred.
COMMITMENT AND SELECTION
This is an unpaid volunteer leadership position requiring approximately 10–15 hours per week through December 2026. The commitment may be reassessed after THI’s immediate organizational systems and leadership structure are stabilized. The position is hybrid and will include remote work and occasional in-person meetings or events in Baltimore.
Applicants moving forward must provide a current résumé and two professional references. Qualified candidates will participate in a formal interview, review the position’s authority and limitations, complete confidentiality and conflict-of-interest disclosures, and complete THI’s organizational orientation before beginning.
Appointment to this position does not authorize independent legal, financial, contractual, personnel, or board-governed decisions. Those matters require approval from the Executive Director, Board of Directors, or another authorized party, as applicable.
