Volunteer Position: Community Outreach Volunteer
Organization: Kids and Car Safety
Location: Remote, your local community (in person outreach)
Commitment: Flexible and based upon community event schedules and volunteer availability. Recommended 1-2 community events or distribution activities per season.
Reports to: Family Support, Engagement, and Advocacy Manager
About the Role:
Community Outreach Volunteers help raise awareness about child safety risks and share lifesaving information with families, caregivers, and community partners. By representing Kids and Car Safety as your local community events or distributing materials directly to community spaces, you will play a key role in ensuring that important safety resources reach individuals who need them the most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Host a table at community events or collaborate with partner organizations to print and distribute Kids and Car Safety materials.
- Share educational brochures, handouts, or other printed resources with people who interact with children.
- Consider looping safety videos on a personal laptop at tabling events to engage attendees.
- If personally impacted by a frontover, backover, hot car, water submersion, and feel comfortable doing so, please share your story to help raise awareness. Participate in presentations, announcements, or local media opportunities. Kids and Car Safety is able to provide additional support here.
- When not attending events, distribute materials to local organizations, like:
- Child care facilities and early childhood programs
- Pediatrician offices and hospital birthing centers
- Parenting and lactation classes
- Grocery stores, businesses, or agencies serving families with young children.
- Faith-based organizations
- First responders
- Track outreach activities by keeping a log of dates, locations, and number of materials distributed. Submit this record to Kids and Car Safety to track national reach.
Desired Skills & Qualities:
- Friendly, approachable, and comfortable engaging with the public.
- Passion for child safety and willingness to share resources in a non-judgemental manner.
- Dependability and ability to follow through on commitments
- Strong communication skills; bilingual ability is a plus.
- Experience in community engagement, outreach, or advocacy is helpful, but not required.
Training and Support:
- Volunteers will receive an orientation to Kids and Car Safety and an overview of available materials.
- Volunteers are required to complete this training video.
- Access to safety videos and printable resources for distribution.
- Ongoing support from staff and volunteer coordinator.
