Product Designer — (Volunteer)

The project

GoodBot is building a repository of key resources, organizations, policies, and issues to help companies, civil society organizations, policymakers, and citizens advance responsible technology practices, individually and collectively.

As part of this, we're building a dashboard to capture signals from users and turn them into policy-intelligence workflow.

We're looking for a product designer to help take this from concept to a clear, usable interface — someone who can turn a fairly complex, multi-part system into something that feels simple and legible to a non-technical user.

GoodBot is an interdisciplinary community of lawyers, technologists, designers, researchers, and policy folks working to make technology more trustworthy, accountable, and socially sustainable. We help tech companies embed real social impact strategy into their products, and we publish original research on emerging tech harms and how to govern them well — all in service of healthier, more inclusive digital societies.

What you'd be doing

• Design the dashboard's core UX
• Create a novel interface for searching through complex datasets and deliver a simple and legible experience for non-technical users.
• Build wireframes and prototypes for key views (in Figma or similar)
• Work directly with our researchers and developers to keep design grounded in both the data and technical constraints
• Run lightweight usability testing and iterate based on feedback

What you bring

• Experience designing data-heavy, dashboard-style, or multi-view information systems (portfolio welcome)
• Comfort with Figma or equivalent design tools
• A good eye for turning complexity into clarity — this is as much an information architecture and design challenge as a UI one
• Ability to work independently and communicate well with a distributed team
• Bonus: familiarity with data viz libraries or frontend constraints (D3, Recharts, etc.) — not required, but helps you scope realistic designs
