Community Builder - Data Science Bay Area

Time commitment: Ongoing, 2–5 hours/week

Openings: 2 part-time volunteer positions

About the Role

We’re looking for two volunteers who are excited about community building, event planning, and data science for social good to help strengthen the Delta Analytics volunteer experience.

At a strategic level, you’ll help us build a stronger community of data scientists who are connected to each other, engaged with our mission, and motivated to use their skills to help nonprofits make a greater impact.

At a tactical level, you’ll help plan and run events throughout the year, including our traditional Data Fellowship as well as our new in-person AI Enablement pilot.

You’ll work closely with the Fellowship Experience Director, Project Operations, and Marketing Team, helping turn ideas into engaging, well-run experiences for our volunteers.

What You’ll Do

• Build community: Help create opportunities for volunteers to connect, collaborate, learn, and build relationships.
• Plan and manage events: Coordinate event logistics, scheduling, communications, activities, and day-of execution.
• Support the Fellowship: Help plan and facilitate community-building activities and events throughout the traditional Data Fellowship.
• Support our AI Enablement pilot: Help organize and deliver our new in-person program focused on helping NGOs build practical AI capabilities.
• Motivate and engage volunteers: Help create an environment where volunteers feel welcomed, energized, and connected to Delta’s mission.
• Collaborate across teams: Work with the Fellowship Experience Director, Project Operations, and other volunteers to coordinate programming and improve the volunteer experience.
• Bring new ideas: Identify creative ways to strengthen our community and make our events more engaging and meaningful.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

• Enjoys bringing people together and creating a sense of community.
• Is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing event details.
• Has strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Can take initiative and move things forward without needing a lot of direction.
• Enjoys motivating and engaging others.
• Is excited about data science, technology, AI, and/or using these skills for social good.
• Doesn’t necessarily have formal event-planning experience; enthusiasm, organization, and a willingness to lead are just as important.
