    About The J Healthcare Initiative

The J Healthcare Initiative is a registered Canadian non-profit organization on a mission to prevent overdoses through community- and evidence-based initiatives that uplift youth and local communities. We work to address the toxic drug crisis by empowering drug users' healthcare choices, building infrastructure for safe supply, and advocating for policies rooted in dignity, respect, and universal healthcare access.

    Role Overview

We are seeking passionate, committed, and driven student leaders to join our College Chapter program. As a College Chapter Volunteer, you will play a frontline role in carrying our mission to campus communities across Canada and beyond. You will lead youth-focused harm reduction education, build community awareness, and advocate for evidence-based policies that prevent drug poisoning deaths.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Campus Education: Facilitate educational workshops and events to raise awareness about the toxic drug crisis, youth-focused harm reduction, and the benefits of legal prescription access to regulated opioids and stimulants.
    • Community Building: Represent and promote The J Healthcare Initiative’s mission on your campus, creating inclusive spaces for students to learn and engage.
    • Awareness & Fundraising: Organize events to raise critical funds and awareness for expanded safe supply infrastructure, community overdose prevention, and individualized care options.
    • Policy Alignment: Advocate for full-spectrum harm reduction policies within your campus community and local student networks.

    Requirements

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
    • Strong passion for youth empowerment, harm reduction, and evidence-based drug policy reform.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, empathy, and professionalism in community-facing roles.
    • Commitment to serve for at least one academic year (longer involvement encouraged).

    Benefits

    • Impact: Directly save lives and shape youth-led overdose prevention initiatives.
    • Professional Development: Receive an official letter of recommendation after one year of service certifying your leadership and contributions.
    • Networking: Connect with healthcare professionals, drug policy experts, and harm reduction advocates across North America.
    • Hands-on Experience: Gain practical skills in knowledge dissemination, public health initiatives, event execution, and community leadership.

    How to Apply

Please send your resume/CV and a brief cover letter of interest to volunteer@j-initiative.org. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The J Healthcare Initiative strongly encourages applications from people with lived/living experience of substance use and youth from underserved populations. We provide full accommodations for health conditions, disability, and flexible schedules. Abstinence is not mandatory.
