Help Believe in Me strengthen board leadership and succession for programs serving underserved youth and young people.
The volunteer Board Vice Chair supports effective governance, assists the Chair, leads assigned priorities, and is prepared to facilitate board work when the Chair is unavailable.
Responsibilities:
- Support agenda planning, board development, meeting preparation, and annual governance priorities
- Chair meetings or lead assignments when formally delegated
- Help committees, officers, and board members remain connected to approved responsibilities and deadlines
- Support evaluation, succession, recruitment, orientation, and governance improvement
- Encourage informed participation, constructive dialogue, accountability, and appropriate follow-through
- Review mission, strategy, finances, risk, compliance, and organizational performance as a fiduciary
- Disclose conflicts and protect participant, personnel, donor, legal, and financial information
- Avoid directing staff, exercising Chair authority without delegation, or representing the board without approval
- Escalate governance, ethical, financial, safety, or compliance concerns appropriately
Qualifications:
- Prior nonprofit board or comparable governance leadership experience
- Strong facilitation, diplomacy, judgment, strategic thinking, preparation, and follow-through
- Understanding of fiduciary duties, nonprofit governance, conflicts, and leadership succession
- At least 30 years old and willing to complete background and reference checks
- Ability to meet the full officer term and attendance expectations
This is a remote governance role available within the United States. Expect approximately 6–10 hours per month.
