Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is a non-profit organization that believes that every New Yorker deserves to know home in NYC. S:US works with communities and individuals in every corner of the city and on Long Island to make sure every New Yorker has the chance to find home. Because home is more than a roof. Home is stability, safety, community, and a sense of belonging. And the opportunity to find home is the right of every New Yorker.
Participants of our 149 th Day Habilitation and South Bronx Day Habilitation are coming together to learn to ice skate. These day habs are skill building programs where people with intellectual/development disabilities receive training for daily living skills, such as communication and self-preservation, community awareness, independent living and pre-vocational skills. In December to February, they are learning to go ice skating! Volunteers would go to Riverbank State Park on Wednesdays from 10am to 11:30am and assist the coach in teaching 10-15 people (with staff and other volunteers) in the fundamentals of ice skating. Volunteers must bring their own skates and protective equipment for themselves.
