Why: By volunteering as a Warm Line Volunteer with Safe Parking LA, you’re not just answering calls—you’re offering empathy, stability, and a listening ear during moments of uncertainty. Your presence helps reduce isolation, connect participants to resources, and provide emotional support as they navigate their journey toward housing and greater stability.

Who: Safe Parking LA provides safe overnight parking to facilitate stability and housing in Los Angeles County for individuals living in their vehicles, and advocates for fair and equitable treatment and resources for the unhoused. As part of this mission, the Warm Line offers participants a reliable way to connect with trained volunteers for information, reassurance, and referral support.

What to Expect: As a Warm Line Volunteer, you will respond to non-emergency calls from Safe Parking LA participants during designated shifts, offering respectful support, basic program information, and resource referrals using provided guidelines. You will coordinate with Safe Parking LA staff for scheduling, training, and ongoing supervision, and document calls in a secure system to help the team track participant needs and improve services.

Answer Warm Line Calls: Provide calm, compassionate, nonjudgmental support to participants during scheduled shifts.

Share Program Information & Resources: Use approved scripts and resource guides to answer questions and offer appropriate referrals.

Coordinate with SPLA Staff: Confirm your shift schedule, communication tools, and any updated protocols or resources.

Maintain Confidentiality & Boundaries: Protect participant privacy and follow Safe Parking LA’s guidelines for professional, trauma‑informed communication.

Document Calls: Record basic, non-identifying information about calls as directed to support continuity of care.

What's Required:

Evening and/or weekend availability for scheduled Warm Line shifts.

Orientation and Warm Line training.

3‑month minimum commitment, with recurring weekly or biweekly shifts.

Access to a quiet, private space and reliable phone/internet during shifts.
