Summary of Position
Volunteers serve as friendly and knowledgeable representatives of Jeffco Parks & Open Space (JCPOS). They welcome visitors to Lookout Mountain Nature Center (LMNC), share enthusiasm for nature and stewardship, and help people form meaningful connections with the park system. Information Specialists foster curiosity and appreciation by engaging visitors in conversation, offering accurate information about park resources, and answering a variety of questions, including those related to local wildlife, behavior, and safety.
Duties
Greet and orient visitors to LMNC and the JCPOS park system, helping them feel welcome and confident exploring the area.
Engage visitors in a friendly, professional manner; answer questions and share stories about park features, trails, and wildlife native to the area.
Be familiar with nearby attractions within or adjacent to JCPOS properties so you can help visitors discover more ways to enjoy and appreciate our beautiful public lands.
Model and communicate JCPOS Park Regulations as examples of good stewardship, offering courteous educational reminders that promote both safety and respect for natural resources.
Requirements
Keen interest in the stewardship of JCPOS Parks demonstrated through communicating with and educating park visitors
Friendly personality that enjoys working with diverse park visitors
Possess good decision-making and communication skills
Purchase a uniform and wear it while on duty
Complete required training before working independently
Volunteers must abide by JCPOS Park Regulations and established volunteer policies and procedures outlined in the JCPOS Volunteer Handbook.
