The competition phase of MATHCOUNTS begins in the schools in the form of a qualifying test.Students are coached in everything from basic arithmetic skills to math logic, probability and statistics, linear algebra, and polynomials.Between September and the national competition in the Spring, students and teachers work together in quizzes and drills to develop teamwork and skills. They are then ready to advance to the Regional Competition on a February Saturday morning in Columbus. The highest ranking "mathletes" advance to the State competition in Columbus in March. The top 4 highest scoring mathletes advance to the National MATHCOUNTS competition each May.
We need volunteers to serve as proctors and graders. Proctors are in the room with a small (10-24) group of students handing out the tests, monitoring their work, and then collecting tests after the time is up.
Graders are in a group of other adults who score the exams based on the answer key. All work is done between training at 8 am to finishing at noon that day.
