Help Wash Food Bins for Food Recovery at Willing Hands

Late summer and fall are our busiest times of year for donations from local farm partners, and our volunteer team that cleans the bins and crates we use to distribute fresh produce could use some additional support. We’re hoping to find a few people from our partner community who would be willing to help us keep up with bin washing through the remainder of the growing season.

What would be involved:

• Volunteers work in pairs to clean the inside and outside of our food bins and crates using a gas-powered pressure washer.
• Each session takes about 1-1.5 hours and is physically active—volunteers should expect to get wet!
• We’re looking for a regular weekly commitment: A group of several people could "adopt" a day of the week and work to cover the session in pairs so that no set individuals needed to be available every week. We also can work out swaps and coverage with advance notice of outages.
• No prior experience is needed. We’ll train volunteers on safe and efficient bin washing and provide gloves and ear protection.

This is a behind-the-scenes but essential part of making sure we can safely recover and distribute fresh, nutritious food throughout our community.
