Come down to the beach and put your skills to work in a relaxing environment.
Adaptive Fusion is a dragon boat team in Long Beach that includes a variety of people, including some who are Deaf. We need interpreters on the beach because our coaches will be explaining some techniques to the team or how to do certain exercises.
Some of the interpreting is just social, but we also need people who are willing to get on the dragon boat (a large canoe with many people on it) to help our coaches explain techniques or drills to our Deaf teammates.
There is a large Dragon Boat community here at Mothers Beach, which is sort of at the junction of the 22, the 405, and the 605. We gather at the right end of the parking lot area, where it makes a U-turn. For free parking, head down Appian Way under the second street bridge and park past the Scouting building. Then it's a short walk back to us. We meet at the second cement bench.
Our event is broken into three sections.
1) Land training and socializing before practice 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM
2) On the boat training from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM
3) Announcements and Land training after practice. 10:45 AM to 11:15 AM or so
We need interpreting for all three sections, but if you can't do all three, then help when you can. We also practice both Saturday and Sunday mornings. We would love you to come regularly, but you are totally welcome even if you can only come once.
Check us out! We are a fun group of people. adaptivefusion.org
