Tell the Stories of Our Region. Join the KYRS Local News Team.
KYRS Thin Air Community Radio is looking for writers and reporters for KYRS Local News, our weekly news program covering the Inland Northwest. Airing Fridays at 4:30PM, KYRS Local News is hosted by Daniel Zamora and crew and digs into the stories shaping life in Spokane and the surrounding region, from politics and public policy to art, race, culture, and the environment. We focus on voices and perspectives that are often overlooked, and we believe strong local journalism is essential to a healthy community.
This is an opportunity for curious, thoughtful community members to help produce meaningful, people-centered journalism. You don’t need to be a career reporter, just someone who asks good questions, listens closely, and cares about what’s happening where we live.
As part of the KYRS Local News team, you’ll:
Receive training and editorial support Learn the fundamentals of radio journalism and audio storytelling
Collaborate with a committed group of volunteer journalists
Help inform and engage listeners across the Inland Northwest
This is a long-term volunteer role, but it’s also a chance to build skills, amplify community voices, and contribute to truly independent, nonprofit local media. If you’ve ever wanted to report on an issue that matters to you, or help ensure Spokane’s stories are told with depth and care, we want to hear from you.
