Position Summary
The Chief Education Officer (CEO) serves as the senior educational leader of Open Doors Academy and works closely with the Executive Director to develop, oversee, and strengthen the Academy’s academic programs.
This volunteer leadership position is responsible for supporting the development of curriculum, instructional standards, educational policies, teacher support systems, student learning programs, and overall academic quality.
The Chief Education Officer helps ensure that Open Doors Academy provides a high-quality, inclusive, student-centered educational experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide educational leadership and strategic guidance for the Academy.
- Work with the Executive Director to establish academic goals and priorities.
- Develop and review curriculum and instructional programs.
- Help establish academic standards, policies, and procedures.
- Support the development of K–12 educational programs.
- Assist with teacher recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development.
- Provide guidance regarding instructional practices and student learning.
- Review academic programs and recommend improvements.
- Help develop student assessment and progress-monitoring practices.
- Promote inclusive, accessible, and student-centered education.
- Support the development of academic handbooks, curriculum guides, and educational policies.
- Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning.
- Help evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, volunteers, families, and community partners.
- Assist with preparation for future accreditation, authorization, or educational quality reviews, as applicable.
- Represent the Academy professionally in educational partnerships and community activities.
- Perform other educational leadership responsibilities assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates should have:
- Experience in education, school administration, curriculum development, teaching, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of instructional practices and student learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators and volunteers.
- Commitment to student success and educational equity.
- Ability to work independently in a volunteer leadership capacity.
A degree or professional certification in education, educational leadership, curriculum, or a related field is preferred but may not be required depending on the responsibilities assigned.
Time Commitment
This is an unpaid volunteer leadership position. The expected time commitment will be established with the Executive Director based on organizational needs and the volunteer's availability.
Compensation
Volunteer — Unpaid
This position does not provide salary, wages, or employment benefits. Reasonable volunteer-related expenses may be reimbursed only if approved in advance by the organization and consistent with its policies.
Organizational Relationship
The Chief Education Officer reports directly to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the Academy's leadership team.
The Executive Director retains overall organizational and executive authority, while the Chief Education Officer provides leadership and expertise regarding academic and educational matters.
