Overview
The Fédération Internationale de la Jeunesse, in English the International Youth Federation (IYF), is an international non-profit youth organisation network governed by the present Statutes and the Swiss Civil Code. It is politically neutral and non-denominational, aiming to empower youth worldwide.
The IYF Department of Public Information (DPI) is responsible for developing and implementing the IYF Global Communications Strategy, strengthening support for the IYF by promoting key messages and strategies on priority youth issues, implementing global campaigns and coordinating communications and public information activities between headquarters, regional administrations and member counties.
The IYF Media & Advocacy Unit (MAU) works to attract positive attention for the IYF, strengthening recognition of our work and raising the profile of the organisation. Strong media outreach, public events, and other multimedia advocacy tools are an important element of that work.
Under the supervision of the Senior Media Specialist and in close collaboration with communications staff, the Digital Communications Specialist works to strengthen IYF’s messages across all internal and external digital platforms, including media, advocacy, and donor communications. S/he will also be a key member of cross-sectional teams to plan and implement major communication campaigns and projects.

Responsibilities
(A) Collaborate and facilitate the process to create and distribute digital content to achieve global communication objectives:
- With communication objectives in mind, collaborate with Digital Web Editors and communications focal points at headquarters to determine, negotiate and maintain a 12-month editorial calendar for digital platforms;
- Along with digital editorial, production and technical teams, develop creative content across all digital platforms to build awareness and engagement and achieve strategic priorities;
- Maintain the official websites and the blog with stories, data and multimedia from HQ, Regional Administrations and Country Teams. Liaise with the rest of the team on whether and how material should be presented on the other language sections of the IYF corporate website; Enhance navigation, structure and content across www.iyfweb.org, liaising with the rest of the team to ensure consistency across languages;
- Contribute to the publication of a wide series of data modules and multimedia products, including photo galleries, videos and audio materials;
- Liaise with the rest of the Media & Advocacy team to determine how specific events should be covered and marketed on the web.
(B) Content Production:
- Manage content production (writing and multi-media) for visual storytelling platforms and digital channels, including website, newsletter and social media;
- Create visually compelling presentations, and support production of advocacy/marketing collateral, including infographics, memes, videos, and photos;
- Coordinate work with designers, writers, and UN Volunteers as needed;
(C) Strengthen global practice of digital communications:
- Advise personnel at global, regional and local levels on standards and best practices for IYF digital communications, including social media strategy and content development;
- Recommend and deploy social media tools for strategic and efficient planning and management;
- Provide trainings to teach skills, impart knowledge and inform on guidelines for effective digital communications especially through social media;
- Assist in develop, implement and evaluate social media plans for major projects and campaigns as set forth by the Media Chief;
- Build capacity of digital communications at all levels through knowledge sharing.
- Develop social media campaigns and liaise with Media & Advocacy team, partners and Country Teams as needed;
- Draft and schedule social media content for IYF corporate channels using existing content and messaging guidelines;
- Draft monthly newsletter to share ideas across Member Countries, partners, donors and youth development institutions;
- Seek opportunities and partnerships to promote the IYF and its priorities through social media.
Language
Advanced English skills are required.
Time Commitment
4-6 hours per week, fully flexible and remote.
Experience
Experience within digital communications is essential. Experience within an NGO, INGO, charity, government, youth empowerment, international development, or similar industry is ideal.
