    Descrição

Call for Leadership: Board of Directors at For Every Star, A Tree

Location: Remote / Los Angeles, CA

Term: 2 Year Commitment (including 3 Months Trial)

    Type: Volunteer Board Position

About Us: For Every Star, A Tree is a grassroots, volunteer-led nonprofit farm. We’re on a mission to connect our community to nature, stewardship, and freshly grown food. We do this by hosting community gatherings, providing hands-on volunteering opportunities, and trainings/workshops. Since 2023, our community engagement skyrocketed from a handful of volunteers to more than 150+ Volunteers, Guests, and Donors. We have cultivated over .25-acres of desertified earth into healthier soil, and are actively envisioning growing our entire 10 acres into a sustainable, regenerative farm and oasis.

The Role: As a community-led organization, we are a working board, and we roll up our sleeves to turn our vision into reality. We are seeking a passionate, strategic, and community-minded individual to join our Board of Directors. As a climate action organization, our Board Members are the engine behind our work. You will not only be governing; you will be co-creating and building our vision alongside Volunteers, Guests, Donors, and our online supporters.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategy: Actively participate in Strategic Planning (1 Year, 5 Years) as well as Annual Operations along with Organizational Goal Setting.
    • Governance: Ensure the organization operates in a legally and ethically sound manner.
    • Advocacy: Serve as an Ambassador for the organization, telling our story to your network and the public.
    • Operations: Lead or support specific committees (e.g., Marketing, Events, Fundraising, Programming).

    The Commitment: Our “Give/Get” Policy

Sustainability is vital for any nonprofit. To ensure we have the resources to connect our community to stewardship, nature, and the outdoors, we adhere to a strict Give/Get Policy of $1,000 annually.

We understand that value comes in many forms. This goal can be met through a combination of monetary and non-monetary contributions.

Ways to meet your Give/Get goal:

    • Direct Giving: A personal donation to the organization.
    • Fundraising: Hosting a fundraiser, securing sponsorships, selling event tickets, or bringing in new donors.
    • In-Kind Services: Donating professional services (e.g., legal, landscaping, accounting, graphic design, construction, grant writing) valued at market rates.
    • Resource Gathering: Securing donations of goods (e.g. auction items, equipment, venue space).

Our goal is to ensure that financial capacity is never a barrier to leadership. If you have the time, talent, and passion, we can help you hit this target!

    Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for action-oriented individuals. While prior experience in the environmental, climate, farm/garden, and outdoor spaces are a plus, it is not required. We are specifically seeking skills in the following areas:

    • Local Organization Partnerships
    • Business Sponsorships
    • Event Organizing

    Time Commitment

    • Attend 75% of Quarterly Board Meetings (approximately 3 hours)
    • Participate in one Committee of your choice
    • Attend major Organizational Events
    • Estimated total: 5 hours per month

    Why Join Us?

    • Immediate, Direct Impact: As a grassroots nonprofit that is on the ground and in the field, you’ll see the fruits of your labor immediately.
    • Networking: Connect with like-minded professionals and enthusiasts in the regenerative agriculture, climate, environmental, and farm/gardening space.
    • Growth: Gain experience in nonprofit governance, strategic leadership, and local community engagement.
