Role Overview
The Curriculum Manager/Curriculum Writer is responsible for designing, implementing, and
managing educational and workforce development curriculum that equips individuals returning
from incarceration with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to successfully reintegrate
into society. This role develops evidence-based, trauma-informed educational programs that
support personal growth, career readiness, financial independence, and long-term success.
Working closely with leadership, case managers, employers, and community partners, the
Curriculum Manager oversees curriculum development, instructional quality, and participant
outcomes while ensuring programs meet the evolving needs of justice-impacted individuals. The
position is instrumental in helping participants overcome educational barriers, build
employability skills, and achieve sustainable employment.
Essential Responsibilities
Curriculum Development
- Design, write, and maintain a comprehensive curriculum focused on reentry success, workforce readiness, career exploration, life skills, digital literacy, financial literacy, communication, and professional development.
- Develop instructional materials including participant workbooks, presentations, assessments, and digital learning resources.
- Create engaging, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed learning experiences that recognize the unique challenges faced by individuals returning from incarceration.
- Research emerging best practices in adult education, workforce development, and reentry programming to continuously improve curriculum.
- Ensure curriculum aligns with organizational goals, employer expectations, and workforce development standards.
Curriculum Management
- Oversee implementation of curriculum across educational and workforce development programs.
- Monitor curriculum effectiveness and revise instructional materials based on participant outcomes and labor market trends.
- Maintain curriculum documentation, version control, and educational resource libraries.
- Collaborate with program leadership to expand educational offerings and develop new learning pathways.
Student Success & Reentry Support
- Monitor participant progress, attendance, engagement, and educational achievement.
- Develop individualized learning strategies that support participants in achieving educational and employment goals.
- Analyze student performance data to identify barriers to success and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Collaborate with student users and case managers to support participants facing academic, personal, or employment-related challenges.
- Promote student persistence, confidence, self-advocacy, and successful program completion.
Workforce Development
- Develop a curriculum that prepares participants for employment through resume writing, interviewing skills, workplace communication, professionalism, conflict resolution, customer service, and career planning.
- Incorporate industry-recognized certifications, employability competencies, and job readiness standards whenever possible.
- Partner with educational agencies, employers, and workforce agencies to ensure the curriculum reflects current hiring practices and workforce needs.
- Support career pathway development that connects education with sustainable employment opportunities.
Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Measure program effectiveness using participant outcomes, employment placement, retention, assessments, and stakeholder feedback.
- Prepare reports that demonstrate educational impact, participant success, and program outcomes for leadership and grant funders.
- Recommend improvements that strengthen participant engagement, learning outcomes, and long-term employment success.
Community Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with community organizations, employers, workforce development agencies, correctional institutions, educational partners, and reentry service providers.
- Participate in program planning, grant initiatives, and strategic organizational development.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Instructional Design, Social Work, Workforce Development, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience developing educational curriculum or workforce development programs.
- Experience working with adult learners and diverse populations.
- Strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design, and educational assessment.
- Excellent writing, editing, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience using data to improve educational outcomes.
- Ability to build positive relationships with participants, staff, employers, and community partners.
- 2-3 years of experience working with online asynchronous learning models.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Education, Adult Learning, Educational Leadership, Workforce Development, or a related field.
- Experience working in nonprofit organizations serving justice-impacted populations.
- Knowledge of reentry programming, trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and workforce development systems.
- Experience managing grant-funded educational programs.
- Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technology.
