Have you ever been on a long road trip, and after a full day of driving all you wanted was a warm, safe place to sleep and a good meal? Well, some dogs will soon be traveling in your direction, and they could use a little help from someone like you.
Transports help save lives by taking dogs from shelters where they are at a high risk to rescue groups in other communities with higher save rates where they can be adopted into loving homes. You can be a part of this life-saving work by helping at a transport stop.
Best Friends is transporting some adorable, adoptable dogs from Houston, Texas, to Minnesota, where they will find their forever homes. But before they get there, they’ll be stopping overnight in Lawrence, KS.
These fuzzy, four-legged travelers will need a few volunteers to help them get situated for their brief stay. This will involve doing some unloading, taking them out for a bathroom break, making sure they are all fed, watered, and bedded down for the night, cleaning up their kennels and helping them get back on the road the following morning.
We currently have quarterly transports scheduled, and the volunteer shifts are typically as follows:
Unloading shift when the transport arrives: 7:00-9:00 PM
Time subject to change due to traffic, weather, etc. Flexibility is wonderful!
Loading shift prior to departure the next morning: 6:30-8:30 AM
If you would be interested in helping with our transport volunteer opportunities, please email us at nationalvolunteers@bestfriends.org and we will get you added to our communications list to notify you when we have a transport scheduled!
Because it's always more fun to volunteer with people you know, if you have any friends or family members (over 18, please) who are interested in joining us, please have them email us at nationalvolunteers@bestfriends.org and we will get them signed up!
Thank you for being a part of these lifesaving transports!!!
