    Job description:

Mental Health Operations Team Advocate (Volunteer)

    Position Overview

The Mental Health Operations Team Advocate (MHOTA) is a volunteer peer support role within TROA’s Mental Health Division. This position focuses on creating safe, supportive spaces and helping reduce stigma around mental health through community connection.

MHOTAs engage directly with individuals across TROA platforms, offering encouragement, presence, and peer-based support to those navigating life challenges.

    Scope of Support

This is a non-clinical, volunteer peer support role.

    MHOTAs:

    • Provide listening, encouragement, and connection.
    • Do not provide therapy, medical diagnosis, or crisis intervention.
    • Refer individuals to professional resources such as 988 or emergency services when needed.

    What You’ll Do

    • Provide peer-to-peer support through active listening.
    • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and stigma-free environment.
    • Engage with the community through Discord and outreach initiatives.
    • Recognize concerning situations and guide individuals to appropriate professional resources.
    • Participate in team briefings and operational check-ins.

    First Contact Program

Some MHOTAs may choose to join a volunteer on-call rotation to respond to support requests by:

    • Offering a supportive presence.
    • Helping individuals feel heard and respected.
    • Facilitating connections to appropriate external resources.

    Build With Us

As an early-stage program, you will have the opportunity to help shape how peer support is delivered as TROA grows. We are looking for mission-driven individuals who want to both support others and contribute to building a meaningful community framework.

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong empathy and communication skills.
    • Ability to stay calm and supportive in difficult moments.
    • Reliable, team-oriented mindset.
    • Interest in mental health, peer support, or community advocacy.
    • A desire to help build and improve programs from the ground up.

    Training & Support

    • Structured onboarding and MHOC orientation.
    • Guidance on peer support boundaries and referral practices.
    • Ongoing mentorship and leadership development opportunities.

    Commitment & Role Type

    • Position Type: Volunteer (Unpaid).
    • Hours: Flexible hours per week based on availability.
    • Meetings: Participation in required trainings and operational check-ins.

    Impact Statement

As a Mental Health Operations Team Advocate, you are a trusted voice and a catalyst for change. Your work directly ensures that no one in the TROA community has to navigate their challenges alone.

    Equal Opportunity Statement

TROA is committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment. We welcome advocates from all backgrounds who are passionate about making a difference in mental health support.
