Volunteer Youth Basketball Coaches (Head and Assistant Coaches Needed)

Give young athletes the opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun on the court by volunteering as a coach with Cosumnes Community Services District’s 2026 Fall Youth Basketball League! Every additional coach helps us provide more youth with the opportunity to participate. Our recreational basketball league introduces youth ages 7–14 to the fundamentals of basketball in a fun and supportive environment. Volunteer coaches play a vital role in creating positive experiences for young athletes and teaching valuable skills.

What You’ll Do

• Lead or assist with weekly team practices and games.
• Teach basketball fundamentals and help players develop their skills.
• Promote teamwork, good sportsmanship, confidence, and inclusion.
• Create a fun, positive, and supportive team environment.
• Communicate basic schedule information with parents and families.
• Head coaches lead practices and help manage their teams, while assistant coaches provide support during practices and games.

Time Commitment

• Approximately 2–3 hours per week from early September through early December 2026
• Attend most weekly practices and games.
• Complete required preseason onboarding, including:
  • Coaches Meeting
  • Coach Training/Clinic
  • Background check and Live Scan fingerprinting (provided at no cost)
  • Required coach training and certification

Qualifications

We're looking for volunteers who are:

• At least 18 years old
• Dependable, patient, and enthusiastic
• Comfortable working with children and communicating with parents
• Interested in creating a fun, safe, and supportive team environment
