Everyday Heroes through Fostering Heroes:
Fostering Heroes Everyday Heroes program brings volunteers directly into the group homes to interact with the youth in their territory and where they feel the most comfortable. We bring fun interactions like bracelet making, painting, playing games, and baking cookies as well as educational curriculum such as financial literacy, career exploration, resume/application building skills, and more! Our goal is to help these youth to succeed as they age out of the foster care system. That is where our volunteers shine! We are looking for volunteers to visit our East Mesa and Glendale houses on a weekly (or bi-weekly) basis! Volunteers are essential to Everyday Heroes and essential to these youth. Please know that this volunteer opportunity does require a commitment as these youth have known too much abandonment in their lives already.
What a volunteer visit looks like:
Our visits are scheduled Monday-Friday after 4pm or Saturdays and last roughly 1 - 1.5 hours. Each house has a copy of the current program and everything the volunteer will need to complete that week's activities. Every other week is a free/fun week that you and/or the kiddos can decide what you want to do! We have an activity inventory that you can choose from or come up with something new! Every visit will be with another volunteer, someone who has already made a connection with the youth! Effort is put into making sure that the volunteer and the group home are a good fit with each other!
If you find yourself having an extra hour or two available during the week, please reach out and ask how you can help the foster youth across the valley!
