    Descrição

Volunteer Opportunity: Empower Women and Girls in Uganda

Menstrual health is often overlooked due to inequality, gender taboos, and socio-cultural factors. In Uganda, absenteeism among girls during their periods is 28%, compared to just 7% on non-period days. Drop-out rates are high in rural areas—up to 80% of girls entering primary school never complete it. Uganda also has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in sub-Saharan Africa, with over 30% of girls having their first child by age 18. HIV infection rates are nine times higher in girls than boys of the same age, and maternal death rates are among the highest globally, with 25% due to unsafe abortions.

Due to limited access and affordability of sanitary products, women and girls often resort to unsafe alternatives such as cloth, leaves, or mattress stuffing—materials that are unhygienic, uncomfortable, and ineffective.

    Your Role as a Volunteer

Our volunteers support the production of safe, high-quality sanitary pads and assist in training and awareness programs for women and girls. Volunteers are based at our Gulu office or in field activities and contribute directly to our mission to improve menstrual health, education, and empowerment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support the production of safe, eco-friendly sanitary pads
    • Assist with daily office and production activities
    • Conduct menstrual health and hygiene training sessions in schools and communities
    • Support marketing and brand development initiatives
    • Assist in social media campaigns, documentation, and reporting

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • Open-minded, adaptable, and culturally sensitive
    • Educational background in business, development studies, economics, finance, or women’s empowerment
    • Understanding of women’s issues, poverty, and post-conflict environments is a plus
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
