We defend parental rights against retaliatory custody battles, helping to ensure survivors retain custody of their children while rebuilding their lives.
Position Title: Volunteer Licensed Mental Health Provider
Duration: Flexible, ongoing
Location: Remote, in-office (NYC), or hybrid (based on preference)
Volunteer Description:
Are you a compassionate, trauma-informed mental health professional committed to supporting survivors of abuse? Mommy’s Heart seeks a Volunteer Licensed Mental Health Provider to deliver pro-bono counseling to abused parents and children facing retaliatory legal action in family court. Your expertise will directly empower survivors, helping them heal and regain stability while navigating traumatic legal and personal challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify trauma-related symptoms, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns using standardized tools and clinical interviews.
- Treatment Planning:
- Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with clients, establishing realistic and measurable therapeutic goals.
- Trauma-Informed Therapy:
- Provide interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and other trauma-focused modalities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond effectively to crisis situations, providing immediate support and collaborating with crisis teams as needed.
- Client Advocacy:
- Advocate for clients’ needs across healthcare, legal, and community systems, connecting them with relevant support services.
- Collaboration and Consultation:
- Work with a multidisciplinary team—including psychiatrists, social workers, and legal advocates—to ensure integrated care.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate clinical records and provide timely reports in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with research and best practices in trauma treatment and participate in ongoing professional learning.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
- Current state licensure as a mental health professional (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist).
- Specialized training and experience in trauma-focused modalities.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices for trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Clinical experience working with survivors of abuse and interpersonal violence.

Work schedule and time commitment are determined by the volunteer. Counseling may be conducted remotely or in person, as agreed upon by the client and practitioner. Meetings with the Executive Director may be held virtually or in-office at mutually agreed times. No minimum time commitment required.
