Position Overview
We are seeking a Volunteer Temporary HR Director to provide strategic and operational human resources leadership during a period of organizational growth. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who wants to give back, gain nonprofit leadership experience, or support workforce-development initiatives.
The Temporary HR Director will oversee HR operations, support volunteer management, ensure compliance, and help build sustainable HR systems for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all Human Resources functions for a remote volunteer workforce
- Supervise HR team members, coordinators, and interns
- Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and documentation
- Oversee volunteer onboarding, offboarding, and record-keeping
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit HR best practices and applicable labor laws
- Advise executive leadership on HR strategy, organizational structure, and risk management
- Support performance management, conflict resolution, and volunteer relations
- Assist with recruitment strategies for volunteers and interns
- Help establish long-term HR infrastructure for sustainability
Qualifications
- Prior experience in Human Resources leadership (HR Director, HR Manager, Senior HR Generalist, or similar)
- Knowledge of HR compliance, employment practices, and volunteer management
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
- Passion for nonprofit work, workforce development, and community impact
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred but not required
Time Commitment
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling
- Temporary assignment of 3–6 months, with potential extension based on organizational needs
