    Recruiting Lead (Volunteer)

    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.

The Volunteer Recruiting Lead will play an important role in expanding Mentor a Promise’s mentorship programs by attracting, engaging, and onboarding qualified volunteers. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is passionate about our mission, enjoys connecting with people, and is excited to help build a strong pipeline of mentors and volunteers who can make a meaningful impact in the community.

Hours: Volunteer role; approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexibility based on organizational needs and recruiting activity.

    Responsibilities

    • Recruitment Strategy: Support the development and execution of effective recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and qualified pool of volunteers.
    • Leadership: Help support the management of the team along with both active and prospective roles and their status throughout the interview process.
    • Screening & Interviewing: Manage the initial screening and interview process for prospective volunteers, ensuring candidates are aligned with Mentor a Promise’s mission, values, and volunteer needs.
    • Candidate Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for prospective volunteers throughout the recruitment process, ensuring timely communication and a positive candidate experience.
    • Onboarding: Coordinate with appropriate team members to support the onboarding and transition of new volunteers into their roles
    • Recruiting Database: Maintain accurate and timely records of prospective and active volunteers within the organization’s recruitment database.
    • Collaboration: Partner with program and leadership teams to understand current and future volunteer needs and align recruiting efforts accordingly.
    • Recruiting Metrics: Track basic recruiting activity and outcomes, providing updates to leadership on pipeline, progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve Mentor a Promise’s recruiting processes, outreach efforts, and overall volunteer experience.

    Qualifications:

    • Passion for Mentorship: Strong commitment to the mission of Mentor a Promise and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the community.
    • Recruiting Experience: Experience managing recruiting activities, processes, or teams, preferably with experience recruiting volunteers or mission-driven individuals.
    • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with a diverse range of people.
    • Relationship Builder: Warm, approachable, and comfortable initiating conversations and building connections with prospective volunteers.
    • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple candidates, priorities, and recruiting activities while maintaining attention to detail.
    • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively with program leaders and other volunteers while also taking ownership of recruiting activities independently.
    • Self-Motivated: Comfortable working in a volunteer-led environment and proactively identifying ways to move recruiting efforts forward.
