    Descrição

City of Berkeley Clean Water Program

The City of Berkeley’s Department of Public Works will host this internship through its Clean Water Program to address critical local capacity needs in meeting stormwater regulatory requirements under the Municipal Regional Stormwater Permit (MRP). Due to staffing constraints, the City requires support with compliance-driven activities, including performing field assessments, collecting data, coordinating volunteer events, modernizing public outreach materials, analyzing data using ArcGIS, and preparing the program for future grant opportunities and capital project implementation.

This project addresses key community planning challenges related to water quality, trash pollution, aging green infrastructure, and environmental inequities in access to clean and safe waterways. The internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-priority environmental program while gaining hands-on experience in municipal operations, environmental compliance, community engagement, and sustainable infrastructure. The interns’ work will directly support the City’s mission to protect water quality, enhance climate resilience, and promote equitable environmental outcomes, with a strong emphasis on outreach to renters, low-income residents, and communities of color.

At the City of Berkeley, we foster a workplace culture that values justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) at its core. We are committed to creating an environment where all employees feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. Our organization actively promotes diversity and seeks to eliminate any barriers that may hinder equal opportunities for growth and advancement.

Serving with the City of Berkeley offers a dynamic professional development experience. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact on our community. You will gain hands-on experience in environmental initiatives, community outreach, and project management. We provide a supportive and collaborative environment where you can develop essential skills, expand your knowledge, and make meaningful connections within the field.
