The Carter Burden Network is seeking compassionate Spanish-speaking interns and volunteers for our Friendly Visiting Program serving homebound older adults in:

• Washington Heights
• Inwood
• Harlem

This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing careers in:

• MSW & BSW Programs
• Psychology
• Nursing
• Pre-Med & Healthcare Studies
• Public Health
• Occupational Therapy
• Physical Therapy
• Gerontology & Aging Services
• Human Services
• Sociology
• Mental Health Counseling
• Community Health & Nonprofit Work

What You’ll Do:

• Visit an older adult weekly in their home

• Offer companionship, conversation, and emotional support

• Engage in activities like chatting, reading, games, light creative projects, or walks

• Build meaningful intergenerational relationships

• Help reduce loneliness and social isolation among older adults

No prior experience necessary.

Training and ongoing support are provided by experienced program staff.

Program Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old

• Spanish-speaking

• Minimum 6-month commitment

• Two non-familial references required

• Background check required
