Seeking Volunteer Videographer / Storytelling Advisor (Crime Victim Advocacy)
Detalhes
Descrição
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced videographer to help document and share the stories of crime victims and survivors in a respectful, trauma-informed way.
Our goal is to help victims and families share their experiences, raise awareness, educate the public, and highlight the importance of victim advocacy and support services.
We believe that, when done safely and appropriately, telling one’s story can be an important part of the healing process. Many survivors find that having the opportunity to share what happened, be heard, and reclaim their narrative can become part of their journey toward recovery and moving forward.
This role is not simply about creating videos. It is about creating a safe environment where survivors have control over their own stories and can choose how they want their experiences represented.
The ideal candidate understands that stories involving crime, trauma, loss, and recovery require patience, sensitivity, and a survivor-centered approach.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting trauma-informed interviews with victims and families
- Helping individuals feel safe and supported while sharing their experiences
- Recording personal stories, advocacy messages, and educational content
- Advising on ethical and respectful storytelling practices
- Collaborating with victim advocates to ensure appropriate preparation and follow-up
- Helping create videos that educate the public, support survivors, and promote awareness
- Assisting with editing and production of video content
Preferred experience:
- Documentary filmmaking
- Nonprofit storytelling
- Trauma-informed interviewing
- Journalism or human-interest storytelling
- Experience working with sensitive or emotionally difficult subject matter
Qualities we value:
- Compassion and patience
- Respect for privacy, consent, and survivor choice
- Ability to listen without judgment
- Understanding that survivors own and control their stories
- Commitment to protecting the dignity and well-being of participants
This volunteer opportunity is ideal for someone who believes that carefully told stories can help survivors feel heard, support healing, educate communities, and create positive change.
Training and guidance on our trauma-informed advocacy approach will be provided.
