    Join our dedicated team and make a direct impact on saving lives! As a Volunteer Medical Screener, you'll play a crucial role in our blood collection operations by performing essential medical screenings for potential blood donors. This opportunity involves actively supporting blood donors at our blood drives where your contributions will help ensure the safety and well-being of our donors and recipients.

    • Engage with Blood Donors: Collect and confirm donor demographics to ensure accurate records.
    • Assess Eligibility: Determine donor eligibility for procedures, making sure they meet the necessary criteria.
    • Perform Health Screenings: Conduct or assess results of physical exams, including checking oral temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hematocrit levels, following established procedures.
    • Support Donor Health Histories: Facilitate and evaluate health history information, typically self-administered by donors, to ensure they are ready to donate.
    • Utilize Technology: Complete computer-based training and use various computer applications for database access, data input, and more during your shift.
    • Encourage the Optimal Donation Process: Help ensure we can meet our inventory needs and maintain the right supply of blood products needed for patients.
    • Compliance: Adhere to all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as American Red Cross policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Stay Informed: Attend relevant meetings, skill competency assessments, and updates to stay current with best practices.
    • Be Reliable: Demonstrate punctuality and dependability for all assignments, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for donors.

    Qualifications:

    • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
    • Must be age 18 or older and hold a HS diploma or equivalent
    • Ability to use and understand technology needed for position
    • Customer service experience, effective verbal communication, and public relations skills are required
    • Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedure instructions and training
    • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.

    Training will be 40 hours per week for 4 consecutive weeks through a combination of both virtual and in-person training. Please ensure your schedule can accommodate 4 consecutive weeks of training.

    • Comprehensive Training: Participate in an engaging, virtual and hands on 4-week training program, Monday to Friday, generally between 8am-5pm local time. This uninterrupted training ensures you are fully prepared and confident in your role.
    • Flexible Volunteering: Commit to just 2 shifts per month, allowing you to make a meaningful impact while balancing your other responsibilities.
    • Continuous Learning: Enjoy ongoing competency assessments and training to keep your skills sharp and stay updated with the latest best practices.

    Exposure levels are based on the essential functions as stated in this position description; however, in some instances, variances may occur due to the applicable nature of this position within a particular work site. Therefore, the work site may determine the exposure level to be greater than or less than the below stated level.

    This position is an exposure determination: 1 in view of the fact that the position requires the incumbent work under conditions where the potential exists for the incumbent to make contact with blood or blood components as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks.

    Time Commitment:

    Combination of both virtual and in person instruction typically 8a-5p or shifted one hour earlier or later depending on the time zone the class is being held in.

    On the job training days dependent on the drive during that day - typically a 4-6hr shift. Drive(s) locations are depending on available drives, start and end times ranging from 7 AM – 6 PM. Some travel may be required.

    Training will be 40 hours per week for 4 consecutive weeks through a combination of both virtual and in-person training. Please ensure your schedule can accommodate 4 consecutive weeks of training.

    Once training is completed, time requirement is two shifts per month (approx. 4-6 hours per shift).
