NAAAP New York is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), all-volunteer, AAPI professional organization that promotes the career advancement and leadership development of Asian American professionals in all fields through professional development, community service, and social events. We are the founding chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), with a history dating back to 1982.
About the Role
This role leads the development, management, and expansion of NAAAP NY’s special project initiatives and scholarship programs. The Director, Special Projects will collaborate with multiple committees to deliver high-impact projects that elevate emerging leaders and create opportunities for community members. You will be reporting directly to the VP of Special Projects.
Key Responsibilities
Special Projects Execution (40%)
- Identify, propose, and execute unique initiatives that support NAAAP NY’s mission (e.g., leadership spotlights, community partnerships, cultural initiatives, book clubs, special events, cross-chapter initiatives).
- Pilot new programs that address unmet community needs or elevate member opportunities.
- Manage timelines, outcomes, and reporting for each special project.
- Collaborate with marketing, finance, and programming committees on cross-functional projects.
Scholarship Program Development & Management (40%)
- Design, implement, and manage NAAAP NY’s annual scholarship programs.
- Ensure inclusive outreach to students, emerging professionals, schools, and organizations across New York.
- Create clear application processes, selection criteria, and evaluation frameworks.
- Oversee coordination of application review committees and judge panels.
Community & Partner Engagement (20%)
- Build relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and sponsors.
- Identify partnership opportunities to support scholarship funding or special project collaboration.
- Represent NAAAP NY at select external events or info sessions promoting scholarship initiatives.
Qualifications
- Passion for educational equity, leadership development, and community empowerment.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a volunteer-driven environment.
- Adept at working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Experience in program development, scholarships, or nonprofit leadership is a plus.
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 12 months, actively participating in the planning and execution of special projects.
