GECAC’s Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious, home-delivered meals to older adults throughout Erie County. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that seniors receive food, brief wellness checks, and moments of human connection.
Meals on Wheels volunteers help reduce food insecurity, prevent social isolation, support independent living, and provide early detection of health or safety concerns.
Because a meal is never just a meal.
We offer flexible opportunities for both drivers and non-drivers.
Volunteer Driver (Priority Role)
Volunteer Drivers pick up packaged meals from a designated kitchen or senior center and follow an assigned delivery route to bring meals directly to seniors’ homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick up packaged meals from designated sites.
- Deliver meals along the assigned route.
- Provide a brief, friendly visit and wellness check.
- Report concerns or notable changes in a client’s condition.
- Communicate with GECAC staff regarding completed routes or issues.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 1–2 hours per route
- Flexible weekday morning and early-afternoon routes
- Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly options available

Volunteer Runner (No Driving Required)
Volunteer Runners accompany a Driver and assist with door-to-door delivery and navigation. This role is ideal for individuals who do not drive or prefer not to drive.

Intergenerational & Group Volunteering
Families, friend groups, and community organizations are welcome to volunteer together. Youth may assist as runners alongside an adult.

- Google: Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History – Home or go to: https://epatch.state.pa.u This will take you to Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History.
- Once there, click the yellow box “New Record Check” (Volunteers only). Read “Terms & Conditions for the use of PATCH”
- At the page bottom, check the box under: Volunteer Acknowledgement Section
- By checking this box I verify that I am submitting this request for criminal history record information in connection with my status as an unpaid volunteer. I understand that the $22 fee is being waived because of my status as an unpaid volunteer. I also understand that any false statements made on this form are subject to the penalties of 18 Pa.C.S. § 4904, relating to unsworn falsification to authorities and can be punishable by fine or imprisonment.
- Then click “Accept.” This will take you to the “Personal Information” page.
- Complete the first few lines as follows:
- Reason for Request: “Volunteer Free”
- Volunteer Organization Name: “Greater Erie Community Action Committee”
- Volunteer Organization Phone Number: “814-459-4581”
- Continue by completing the remaining personal information as requested.
- Click “Next”. This takes you to the “Personal Information Review”
- Review your personal information and click “Proceed.” This takes you to the “Record Request Form”
- Enter the requested information.
- Click “Enter This Request”
- At the bottom of this page click “Finished.” This takes you to the “Record Check Request Review” page. Review this information.
- Click “Submit” and wait. This will take you to the “Record Check Request Results” page.
- Notice the number in the column titled “Control #”, (usually starting with an “R”), click this number. This takes you to the “Records Check Details” page.
- Click on “Certification Form”
- Click “Print” at the top of the page and retain this form as a result of your Criminal Record Check.
