Lead late night movie nights and create your own traveler's film festival at HI Chicago hostel!

MUST BE A RESIDENT OF CHICAGO OR THE CHICAGO AREA TO APPLY.

SCHEDULE

We are looking for volunteers to independently lead their own late night movie nights for weekly or monthly events. Timing is flexible but volunteer must decide a consistent time for all events. To accommodate for film lengths, volunteer shift will vary between 2-3 hours. Must start at or after 7pm. Example: Wednesdays 7pm-10pm or Saturdays 9pm-midnight.

Do you love film? Love talking about movies? Would you like to pick out a movie for guests to enjoy, then foster a post-movie discussion with guests, while serving free popcorn? If this sounds fun to you, we'd love for you to host weekly or monthly movie nights at HI Chicago hostel!

HI Chicago is a downtown hostel that hosts travelers from around the world. This event allows guests to learn about American or Chicago culture (or heritage months/holidays) through film, as well as meet and interact with each other.

The volunteer will be trained to independently lead this event, and are welcome to plan/provide suggestions for movies. They will setup and cleanup the event, serve popcorn, and actively engage guests in discussions after the film ends.

Movies must connect to the following topics: Chicago, heritage months, holidays, documentary films that highlight culture & travel.

Some examples of movies/discussion topics:

• Candyman (2021) and afterwards a discussion on gentrification in Chicago, and urban legends in different cultures
• Selma (2014): Discuss civil rights leaders in different cultures, and ask guests if they have ever felt fearful of standing up for what they believe in
• A League of their Own (1992): Discuss women in sports, and different sports that are common in different countries/cultures

You must be 18+ to be a volunteer with us.

This may require standing for long periods and lifting up to 20lbs.

PURPOSE/DEFINITION and HI USA MISSION

HI USA is 501(c)(3) non-profit education association. Our purpose is to "inspire a deeper understanding of people places and cultures for a more tolerant world." As a non-profit, the revenues we receive through overnight stays and memberships is reinvested in mission delivery.
