Position Overview
The RegionalCenter of East Bay (RCEB) is seeking committed individuals to serve on its Board to further the mission of the RCEB. Board service is an honorary,volunteer role providing governance and oversight to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) and their families in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
Reasonable accommodations are provided, especially to RCEB clients serving on the Board. Time Commitment: Minimum one (1) year. Approximately 3–7 hours per month, including:
- Monthly Board Meetings: Virtual public meetings 4th Monday each month except July & Dec @ 7–8:30 p.m.
- Committee Service: Serve on at least one Board committee as chair/co-chair.
Core Responsibilities:
- Promote RCEB’s mission by bringing a self-advocate, family or professional perspective to decision-making.
- Act in the best interests of individuals served (i.e. rights, inclusion, self-determination) and their families.
- Provide governance and oversight under the RCEB Bylaws and the Lanterman Act.
- Participate meaningfully to add value at board and committee meetings and other discussions via email.
- Strategically planning, monitor progress toward organizational goals and oversee the financials.
Desired Backgrounds and Skills: RCEB seeks candidates who reflect:
- Various ethnicities (Latin America, African American, Asia Pacific, South Asian, Middle Eastern, Muslim);
- Individuals with IDDs (self-advocates);
- Parents, legal guardians, and family members of people with IDDs; and
- Professionals skilled in finance, legal, governance, management, marketing, communications & technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Team player who thinks critically, creatively and pragmatically to solve problems.
- Bold to ask questions and eager to learn & be trained. Reliable in attending and preparing for meetings.
- Engages with humility, patience and respect with people from diverse backgrounds including board members, self-advocates, families,providers and RCEB employees.
Training and Support: Board members receive training on:
- RCEB programs and governance structure; roles and responsibilities under the LantermanAct; Board’s fiduciaryduties and ethics; financial oversight; open meeting and publicparticipation requirements. Ongoing support and accommodations are provided, especially for RCEB clientsserving on the Board.
