Journalism Internship - Volunteers Provide a Voice for Hospice Patients

VITAS is seeking skilled and sensitive volunteers to join our LifeBio program. This unique opportunity allows you to apply your talents toward a deeply fulfilling cause: interviewing hospice patients to create personalized biographies. Your work will result in a treasured family heirloom, providing comfort and connection for patients and their loved ones.

Your creative process

1. After completing your training, you will be paired with a patient and their family. Our LifeBio program provides guided questions to help elicit the patient's most meaningful memories.
2. During a series of visits (both virtual and in-person), you'll lead the process, recording and organizing their life story and gathering personal photos.
3. You will then work with our LifeBio team to assemble a first draft of the biography, which is uploaded to a secure online portal for the family to review and edit.
4. Following final approval, the biography is professionally printed and bound. The book is then delivered to the patient and family, a tangible symbol of their unique life journey.
