The Safe Space on SoYouAmI™ is not a help line. It is not a crisis service. It is something quieter and, in its own way, just as important.
It is the corner of the platform where people come when they are not okay. When they are grieving, anxious, lonely, or just exhausted from pretending they are fine. They do not always need a solution. They need someone to sit with them in it.
SoYouAmI™ is a global community platform built by Invicta Child Foundation. Safe Space Companions are the people who make our Safe Space what it is supposed to be — genuinely safe.
Here is what Safe Space Companions do:
- Spend time in the Safe Space section of the platform reading posts from members going through difficult things
- Respond with warmth, without judgment, without advice they did not ask for
- Acknowledge what people are going through — 'I hear you' matters more than 'here is what to do'
- Share relevant professional resources (helplines, services) when someone clearly needs more than peer support
- Flag anything that suggests a member may be in immediate danger — there is always someone to escalate to
- Check in briefly with the Safe Space Lead once a month
You are exactly right for this if you:
- Have experience in mental health, social care, counselling, or peer support — or you just have a natural, unshakeable empathy
- Know how to be present with someone's pain without immediately trying to fix it
- Can handle heavy conversations without taking them home with you — and know when you need support yourself
- Are 18 or older and can show up to the Safe Space a few times a week
