District 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund is a nonprofit workforce development organization dedicated to helping Philadelphia residents build skills and access family-sustaining careers. We provide adult education, including English as a Second Language, occupational training, counseling, and registered apprenticeship programs in partnership with community organizations, employers and District 1199C Union.
The Training Fund is seeking volunteers to work as classroom aides and tutors. Classroom aides assist instructors in class. Instructors prepare materials and directions for using them with students. This commitment is 2-5 hours per week and includes time to meet with the instructor before and after class. Tutors meet with 1-6 students at a time. Tutors prepare instructional materials with the support and assistance from instructors. This commitment is 5-8 hours per week to prepare materials and meet with students. Tutors must have a bachelor's degree. Classroom aides must have a high school diploma.
