The volunteer serving in the Breast Health Center will provide patient focused support duties. The Breast Health Center is a diagnostic Center rather than a screening center. Therefore, volunteers assigned to this department will provide one-on- one support and care to patients in addition to some clerical tasks.
Volunteers assigned to the Breast Health Center will meet with the Breast Health Supervisor upon arrival at the Center. The Breast Health Supervisor will go over the schedule for the day, prioritizing the needs, and directing the volunteer as to where their resources are needed.
Duties:
- Greet patients at the front desk.
- Provide gowns and linens to areas where they are utilized.
- Make up biopsy patient bags.
- Present and explain Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute bags to cancer surgery and SaviScout patients.
- Alert staff if patient transports are delayed.
- Update the family on delays and provide facility information and directions.
- Run errands for staff for supplies.
- Wait with patients between procedures as needed.
- Pick up mail and forms from the main hospital mail center.
- Assist with putting materials together for patient education.
- Make up patient charts.
- Volunteers do not transport patients by wheelchair to the Main Hospital but may accompany patients alongside the employee transporter if needed.
- Make telephone calls to patients to pick up images and to bring orders.
- Help staff in the mailing of written correspondence as needed.
