Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is a nonprofit committed to alleviating isolation and loneliness among older adults across Chicago. We offer people of goodwill the opportunity to join older adults in friendship and the celebration of life.
LBFE is seeking volunteers who are interested in a year-of-service volunteer experience. LBFE year-of-service volunteers commit to visiting 25-30 older adults twice-a-month for a year in a specific area of Chicago, with the goal of sharing friendship through in-person visits, LBFE parties, and special events. Year-of-service volunteers also work on a team with other year-of-service volunteers, participate in regular training, and manage a special project. Year-of-service volunteers are including in LBFE organizational meetings, planning, and other programs.
A year-of-service volunteer could be full-time or part-time and qualify for a monthly stipend for living expenses. Expenses included during visits or engagements with older adults is covered by LBFE. Year-of-service volunteers are required to drive to visit older adults or to transport older adults, either in an LBFE vehicle or in their own vehicle (LBFE would then provide mileage reimbursement.)
LBFE’s year-of-service volunteer program makes a real difference in an older adult’s life, and a volunteer experience can be truly life-changing! If you are recently retired, looking for a gap year, trying to build more work experience, or just seeking a reset, please contact LBFE today for more details!
