Volunteer Transcriptionist

Help Transform Audio Into Valuable Written Content

We're looking for volunteer transcriptionists to convert audio and video recordings into accurate, well-organized written transcripts.

Projects may include interviews, presentations, meetings, educational recordings, discussions, personal stories, and other spoken content. Your transcripts will help writers, editors, researchers, and other volunteers transform recordings into articles, publications, educational materials, website content, and other resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys listening carefully, organizing information, and producing polished written documents.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe audio and video recordings into written text.
• Produce accurate, well-formatted transcripts.
• Preserve the speaker's intended meaning while improving readability when appropriate.
• Identify sections that are difficult to hear.
• Proofread transcripts for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
• Organize transcripts so they are easy for editors and writers to use.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who:

• Has excellent listening skills.
• Has strong English writing, spelling, and grammar skills.
• Pays close attention to detail.
• Types accurately and efficiently.
• Can work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
• Has experience with transcription, captioning, editing, or a related field. Experience is preferred, although strong candidates with excellent language skills are encouraged to apply.
