Support our neighbors without housing: Volunteer with our overnight shelter!

Open Heart Refuge was established by Open Heart Kitchen in January 2024 in response to rising housing costs and the growing need for shelter in our community. While many of us take basic necessities-food, showers, and a warm, dry place to sleep-for granted, our neighbors without permanent housing are often in survival mode and struggle to access these basic necessities.

Why We Need You

Open Heart Refuge continues to rely on the support of compassionate volunteers to work alongside our Shelter Coordinators. We are looking for dedicated volunteers to play a supportive role in ensuring the shelter runs smoothly and that guests feel cared for and respected.

Volunteer Opportunities

• Check-In Shift (5:15 PM - 8:15 PM): Assist the Shelter Coordinator with setting up the shelter, checking in guests, distributing meals, and engaging with guests to create a welcoming atmosphere.
• Quiet Time Shift (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM): Help transition guests to the sleeping area, monitor the shelter during quiet hours, and assist with any needs to ensure a restful environment.
