Pet Visitor/Pet Therapy Volunteer

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pet Visitor Volunteer and their pet is a member of the interdisciplinary team with a desire to support Hospice patients and Transitions clients through visiting patients/clients and their families, with their canine and providing socialization.

TIME REQUIRED: Minimum of one patient visit per month, weekdays or weekends, days, or evenings

CLIENTS: JSSA Hospice patients and JSSA Transitions Clients

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certificate of completion from a pet certification program (PAL, National Capital Therapy Dogs, Fidos for Freedom)
2. Ability to communicate well with all people of diverse background and ages
3. Able to respect confidentiality at all times
4. Comfortable with death and the dying process
5. Demonstrated ability to verbalize Hospice philosophy, mission, goals, and objectives
6. Self-motivation, dependable and responsible
7. Able to work independently
8. Maintains commitment of availability
9. Able to practice proper infection control
10. Able to maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries
11. Must be at least 18 years of age
