Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is a nationally recognized non-profit organization committed to policy and advocacy work in service of civil and human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Our organization focuses on three primary issue areas: 1) reproductive justice and health equity; 2) immigrants rights; and 3) climate change and environmental justice. L4GG's civil rights and health equity team now seeks a part-time summer intern to assist in research, writing and advocacy efforts. Our RJ & HE team works to help healthcare providers, partner organizations, legal advocates and other stakeholders to navigate the constantly changing legal landscape and respond to threats to access to health care. We engage in both large-scale research projects and grassroots advocacy efforts.
What You'll Do:
- Conduct targeted legal research on issues relating to reproductive justice, bodily autonomy and health equity;
- Engage in legal writing, including memoranda, fact-sheets, and advocacy materials on relevant issue areas, both Independently and jointly with L4GG staffers;
- Assist the team with tracking ongoing relevant litigation impacting reproductive justice and health equity;
- Assist the team with tracking proposed state-level legislation impacting reproductive justice and health equity;
- Develop a deep understanding of reproductive justice policy issues, the current legal landscape, and ongoing threats to bodily autonomy; and
- Participate in internal and external meetings with fellow staffers and partner organizations.
Who You Are:
- Demonstrated interest in public interest work and civil and human rights, with a preference for experience in reproductive justice or a related field;
- Possess strong legal research and writing skills;
- Possess outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage professionally and empathetically across diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive thinker who can anticipate needs, foresee challenges, and propose effective solutions independently.
- Able to maintain discretion, integrity, and professionalism at all times;
- We’re a fully remote team, but most of the collaboration for this position will happen during Central Time Zone business hours. For that reason, we strongly prefer candidates who are available to work during those hours.
