    Role Overview

    The Volunteer Recruiter supports talent acquisition efforts across The Sentinel by Yuvoice. You’ll help manage recruitment processes, apply best practices, and build strong partnerships to strengthen our talent pipeline. Collaboration with internal teams is key to ensuring a smooth, positive candidate experience.

    We are building a citizen journalist network so first person perspectives can be shared from across the globe. If you are interested in helping to find other volunteers that can write or tackle projects, this could be for you. Prior experience is preferred but most important is that you can hustle, talk with people, and find folks that can support our great mission.

    Commitment & Expectations

    • Volunteer role requiring approximately 10–15 hours per week for at least 13 weeks, with the option to continue longer.
    • Flexible participation in virtual meetings and interview coordination.
    • Uphold our values of inclusivity, diversity, and professionalism in all interactions.
    • Work closely with the People and Culture Team to support a welcoming, candidate‑centered process.

    Core Responsibilities

    Strategic Talent Acquisition

    • Support the Director of Recruitment in developing and executing recruitment strategies.
    • Identify effective sourcing channels across job boards, social media, and professional networks.
    • Track recruitment trends and recommend improvements.

    Candidate Sourcing & Selection

    • Manage the full recruitment cycle: postings, screening, interviews, and coordination.
    • Review applications and shortlist qualified candidates.
    • Conduct initial interviews and coordinate next steps with hiring teams.
    • Build and maintain a strong talent pipeline.

    Employer Branding & Candidate Experience

    • Promote The Sentinel’s mission and opportunities across digital and community channels.
    • Maintain best practices for communication and engagement.
    • Ensure a smooth, positive experience from application through onboarding.

    Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

    • Partner with hiring managers to understand needs and plan recruitment efforts.
    • Provide guidance to volunteer recruiters to ensure consistent hiring practices.
    • Support inclusive hiring initiatives to attract diverse talent.

    Key Skills and Qualifications

    • Experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, or HR—ideally within nonprofit or volunteer‑driven environments.
    • Strong sourcing, recruitment marketing, and employer branding knowledge.
    • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
    • Ability to use data to inform recruitment strategies.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple searches.
