KPC Buddhist Relief — Communications Coordinator
Detalhes
Descrição
About KPC Buddhist Relief KPC Buddhist Relief is the humanitarian arm of Kunzang Palyul Choling, a Tibetan Buddhist temple and practice center in Poolesville, Maryland. We procure, grow, and distribute over 16,000 pounds of food every month to nonprofit partners across the DC metro area, operate a 3,300-square-foot organic giving garden, and provide direct support to refugee and displaced communities — including ongoing work with 300+ West African refugees and a partnership with United Sikhs for Ukrainian displaced persons. Our work is rooted in the Buddhist principle that compassion isn't an idea — it's something you do.
The Role We're looking for a Communications Coordinator to take ownership of KPC Buddhist Relief's communications presence — someone who brings both creative skill and organizational follow-through, works well independently, and genuinely cares about the mission. This is a real ownership role, not a task-execution role. You'll have a defined domain, creative input within our style guidelines, and the satisfaction of building something meaningful.
What You'll Do
- Create and post social media content across Facebook and YouTube, including drafting original posts, editing food distribution reports into engaging content, and producing photo and video assets in Canva or your preferred video editing tool
- Share content in relevant local Facebook groups and community pages to extend reach
- Upload videos to YouTube and manage playlist organization, end cards, and channel maintenance
- Update the Buddhist Relief blog and assist with website updates in Squarespace, including creating banner images and other visual assets
- Occasionally document deliveries, volunteer activities, and events through photo and video (local availability helpful for this)
What We're Looking For
- Genuine alignment with KPC Buddhist Relief's mission — whether through Buddhist practice, food justice, refugee support, ecological stewardship, or all of the above
- Self-directed with a problem-solving mindset — you notice what needs doing and do it
- Comfortable creating and editing visual content in Canva; basic video editing skills a plus
- Familiarity with Facebook and YouTube as platforms, including backend management
- Some experience with website CMS platforms (Squarespace experience a plus, not required)
- Local to the DC/Maryland area preferred, but most work can be done remotely
Time Commitment Approximately 4–6 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling. Some occasional on-site availability during events or distributions is helpful.
