Unhoused shelter clients need a good listener!
Facilitate discussions in the area of Recovery. Through a combination of listening and teaching, the facilitator will empower and support shelter clients in self-reflection, and finding resources within the shelter and wider community.
Duties/Tasks
- Individuals who are advanced in their own recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction
- Support and coach participants on appropriate behavioral skills and attitudes related to recovery
- Provide a positive, supportive environment that encourages self-reflection and group sharing
- Look for individuals that show an eagerness to learn and encourage them to stay engaged
- Strive for group cohesiveness in which group members gain a sense of belonging, respect and trust
- Assistance would not entail dealing with sensitive client information which would be handled through client’s caseworker.
Qualifications:
- A good listener (seek first to understand, then to be understood)
- Ability to communicate respectfully, honestly and effectively
- Individuals who are comfortable with, and have experience interacting with those who are homeless
Flexible days and times; serve on a monthly or more frequent basis
