About Daisy's Legacy
Daisy's Legacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving animal welfare through advocacy, education, rescue support, and community engagement. Founded in memory of Daisy, a beloved dog lost due to a preventable pharmacy error, our mission is to create stronger protections for companion animals and the families who love them.
Position Summary
Daisy's Legacy is seeking passionate Advocacy Leads to help advance our Pets Are Family Campaign and Daisy's Law – Companion Animal Family Member Act.
This volunteer leadership role is ideal for individuals interested in animal welfare, public policy, grassroots organizing, communications, and legislative advocacy. Volunteers will help build public support, grow petition signatures, research legislation, and engage lawmakers and communities in support of stronger protections for companion animals.
Responsibilities
- Promote and grow the Daisy's Law petition and advocacy campaigns
- Recruit supporters, volunteers, and coalition partners
- Research animal welfare legislation and policy developments
- Monitor state and federal legislative activity affecting companion animals
- Help draft advocacy materials, action alerts, and educational content
- Contact lawmakers, government agencies, and community leaders
- Coordinate petition drives and awareness campaigns
- Build relationships with animal welfare organizations and advocates
- Support media outreach and public awareness efforts
- Assist with campaign strategy and grassroots organizing
About Daisy's Law
Daisy's Law – Companion Animal Family Member Act seeks to modernize animal welfare protections by:
- Recognizing dogs and cats as sentient beings with protected welfare interests
- Strengthening breeder licensing and oversight
- Improving accountability for abuse, neglect, and preventable harm
- Supporting animal welfare advocacy in court proceedings
- Establishing stronger identification and traceability protections
- Promoting policies that recognize the important role companion animals play in our families and communities
Qualifications
- Passion for animal welfare and advocacy
- Strong communication and research skills
- Interest in legislation, public policy, or grassroots organizing
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Social media, political, legal, nonprofit, communications, or advocacy experience is a plus but not required
Impact
This role will help build a nationwide movement to improve protections for dogs, cats, and companion animals while raising awareness that pets are family members deserving of stronger legal recognition and welfare protections.
