Do you have a compassionate heart and a desire to serve others in a deeply meaningful way? We are seeking Direct Care Volunteer with the Gentiva Hospice Volunteer Program to provide comfort, companionship, and support to patients receiving hospice care.
As a direct care hospice volunteer, you can bring dignity, kindness, and presence to individuals and families during one of life’s most important seasons. Your time can make a lasting impact.
Volunteer Responsibilities May Include:
- Providing friendly companionship and emotional support to patients
- Sitting with patients so caregivers can rest or attend to personal needs
- Reading aloud, talking, listening, or sharing quiet presence
- Writing letters or helping with simple life review activities
- Offering support through music, hobbies, games, or conversation
- Visiting patients in private homes, assisted living communities, or nursing facilities
- Supporting the hospice team through consistent, compassionate presence
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, dependable, and respectful demeanor
- Comfortable offering emotional support and presence to seriously ill patients
- Good listening skills and sensitivity to the needs of patients and families
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Completion of hospice volunteer training and onboarding requirements
No medical or hands-on personal care is provided by volunteers.
