Description
The AmeriCorps Seniors Senior Companion Program (SCP), operated by Felton Institute, is seeking compassionate volunteers aged 55 and older to provide companionship and support to older adults across San Francisco. Volunteers help seniors maintain independence, stay socially engaged, and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Visit assigned seniors at adult day health centers or senior centers within San Francisco
- Provide companionship and engage in conversation, recreational activities, and social interaction
- Assist with light daily activities as needed (reading, hobbies, outings, or accompanying to appointments)
- Report observations and feedback to program staff to monitor the senior’s well-being and progress
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Qualifications:
- Must be 55 years or older
- San Francisco resident
- Reliable, compassionate, and patient
- Available to volunteer 10–20+ hours per week
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule and build trusting relationships with seniors
- Good communication skills and willingness to engage in social and recreational activities
- Income-eligible applicants receive a tax-free hourly stipend (does not affect government benefits) and may qualify for transportation reimbursement

Volunteers are assigned to a station at a senior center, adult day health center, or other community site within San Francisco. Placement varies based on program needs and site availability.

- Submit a Volunteer Application:
- You can apply directly through VolunteerMatch by clicking the link in the posting and submitting the Volunteer Interest Form. To access the form:
- Scroll down to the “How to Apply” section and click Volunteer Interest Form.
- You can then submit the form either via email volunteers@feltonInst.onmicrosoft.com or using the secure link provided beneath the form.
- Interview / Orientation:
- Once your interest form is submitted, a member of our team will contact you to schedule an in-person interview. During this meeting, we will discuss the program in more detail, learn more about you, and review the next steps in the volunteer process.
