Role Description
We are seeking caring volunteers and their therapy dog to provide comfort visits to hospice patients. As a Pet Therapy Volunteer, you and your animal will offer gentle companionship, reduce stress, and bring joy to patients and families during a tender chapter of life.
Therapy dogs must be gentle, well-socialized, and comfortable around people in a variety of settings.
Current vaccination records and proof of good health are required for all participating animals.
Responsibilities
- Visit patients in their homes, assisted living, or nursing facilities with your therapy dog.
- Provide emotional support, comfort, and companionship.
- Maintain proper safety, infection control, and animal handling standards.
- Record volunteer visit notes per hospice requirements.
Requirements
- Certified therapy animal (through Pet Partners, Alliance of Therapy Dogs, or equivalent).
- Commitment to consistent visits (minimum 2–4 hours/month).
- Completion of Sonder’s hospice volunteer training program.
- Compassion, reliability, and respect for the dignity of patients and families.

Location
Serving patients across Travis, Williamson, Hays, and Bastrop counties.
